Donatella Cinelli Colombini est née en dans une famille de producteurs de Brunello di Montalcino. 

Elle est diplômée en Histoire de l’Art Médiéval. En 1993 Donatella a fondé le “Wine Tourisme Movement” et elle a aussi inventé l’Open Cellars, qui a fait le succès de l’oenoturisme en Italie.  Après 14 ans d’expérience dans les entreprises familiales, Donatella a créé en 1998 sa société composée de Fattoria del Colle à Trequanda et de Casato à Montalcino. 

En 2003, Donatella remporte l’Oscar “Bibenda” du meilleur producteur italien décerné pas AIS et publie le Wine Tourisme Manual suivi par le livre Marketing of Wine Tourim Manual en 2007. 

De 2001 à 2011, Donatella a été la conseillère pour le tourisme de la province de Sienne. Parmi ses réalisations, le “Trekking Urbain” qui est un nouveau type de tourisme sportif qui s’est répandu partout en Italie à partir de la province de Sienne. En 2012 Donatella a reçu le Vinitaly International Awards et en 2013 elle a été élue présidente du Consorzio d’Orcia. En 2014, Donatella a été nommé Chevalière de la République Italienne et en 2016 elle est élue présidente nationale des femmes du vin. 

C’est en 1998 que Donatella a décidé de commencer sa propre aventure. Donatella avait reçu une quantité de Brunello di Montalcino encore en fût et il était alors nécessaire de les soigner. Donatella avait besoin d’un caviste, alors, elle a téléphoné à l’école d’œnologie de Sienne pour embaucher un bon étudiant, mais l’école a refusé parce qu’il aurait fallu faire la réservation beaucoup d’années à l’avance. -À l’époque, il existait beaucoup de “techniciennes en vin”, mais aucune caviste les engageait-. Le domaine Casato a modifié son nom pour “Casato Prime Donne” qui est la première cave italienne entièrement gérée par des femmes qui a obtenu un succès international grâce à la qualité de ses Brunellos.  Il est divisé en quatre parties. 

1. Casato Prime Donne Winery, avec un personnel entièrement féminin, inclus la vigneronne.

2. Brunello di Montalcino Prime Donne. Le premier vin rouge vieilli conçu par un panel de 4 femmes.

3. Casato Prime Donne Award est une compétition Internationale de journalisme et de photographie qui couronne la Prima Donna, qui est un exemple et une aide au monde féminin.

Présentement, La Fattoria del Colle compte avec plus de 330 hectares sur les collines de Montalcino, de Chianti Classico et de Nobile di Montepulciano. Environ 160 hc sont cultivés en céréales, 6 hc en oliviers et 17 hc en vignes. Les touristes peuvent vivre la noble histoire de la campagne toscane au milieu d’une nature intacte et cultivée de manière biologique. 

Le domaine est équipé de 106 lits en appartements, chambres et villas, d’un restaurant, d’une école de cuisine, de trois parcs et d’un espace bien-être.
