You have lived a life that many would consider a dream; what experiences or possessions do you feel you missed out on?
I am so glad that I got to live the dream I had when I was just a young boy. I really got the showbiz bug in the army in Germany. I used to listen to the Armed Forces radio and imagine all those characters I heard over the airwaves.
Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, all the big singers of the day and then there was Elvis on the jukebox. He was also serving in Germany.
The dream grew and I never would imagine that so many of those voices worked with me on my TV show, Dean Martin presented me Las Vegas at The Riviera Hotel and Elvis came to see my show!
What I did miss was watching my family grow up. I worked so hard and was gone months at a time… My wife was a wonderful mum to our children … grounded, full of adventure, fun and love overflowing.
I also wished I could have done some movies, but that would have kept me off the road and the people making a percentage of me didn’t want that and threw scripts away. It would have been great; the family could have come out for an extended time. I’m grateful for the dreams that came true, but I’m still dreaming!
With such an elegant presence, you have inspired men all over the world; who, in turn, inspired you to cultivate such a refined personality?
I’ve always been particular about the way I presented myself, even in the Army.
When I finally made it and had someone to look after my clothes, I would travel in one outfit and get off the plane in another. Cary Grant and Faberge presented my TV show. I admired him and thought he was immaculate with an elegant style and held himself in such a way that he looked like he stepped right out of a movie. The leads in the Bond movies were also inspiring, but I have to say I worked hard on bringing my own look.

Mes premières chansons étaient de style country, comme « Release Me » et « There Goes My Everything ».
Your voice and style have allowed you to perform various musical genres; which style did you feel most drawn to?
My first songs were of Country Origin “Release Me”. There goes my everything. I also sang some Italian songs with English lyrics. I loved the sweeping arrangements. I also loved the heartfelt simplicity of the country songs. I really enjoyed singing in Spanish, but I’m thrilled with my new project of rock love songs of the 80s. It’s dropping on August 28th, and I’m very proud of it.
You project an image of a glamorous, vigorous, and active life. What is the secret to staying in shape?
The secret is to keep going and appreciate your body. I certainly get stiff if I spend too much time in my easy chair when I’m off the road, but I love the road, so I’m always moving. I spend a lot of time doing martial arts in the pool and watch what I eat, and I’m happy to say I still bring a 90 minute show wherever I go.
Thanks to TikTok, young people have discovered you with great interest. What advice would you give the new generation about music? How do you reach the audience’s heart?
Put everything you can into learning everything you can so that you can enjoy the whole journey. Write on those long bus rides. There’s a lot of memories in those times and if you work at your craft, there’s a reward. And don’t forget it’s show BUSINESS. Keep an eye on it!

“The Celebration Tour”

It’s Wine Time !
What is your favorite wine?
Well, when my daughter was born, I purchased some Château Lafite to toast her at her wedding. They are still in the wine cellar!! When the family gets together, we enjoy a bottle of Opus. I’d be very interested in a good Canadian Cabernet.
Are you familiar with Mexican wine?
No, I’d love to know more. I need to take the time to explore and learn and enjoy. I truly adore a great bottle of wine.
What were the three most special toasts of your life?
I still have a wedding toast for my daughter and one of the most meaningful was at my parents 60th wedding anniversary. I’m from a family of 10. Our parents were our world. My most frequent toast is with the audience.
“Here’s to you and here’s to me and here’s to friends we shall always be… cheers… good health.”

When you raise your glass, there are no borders!

The Making of a Legend
Born in India and raised in England. The son of a British father serving in the army and an Indian mother, Arnold George Dorsey was born on 2 May 1936 in Madras, India. He was one of ten children; his family moved to Leicester, England, when Arnold was ten years old. It was in his childhood that he became interested in music and began learning the saxophone, an instrument he played in nightclubs as a teenager. His impressions of Jerry Lewis prompted his friends to nickname him “Gerry Dorsey.” However, Arnold, always a lover of fine melodies, especially admired a German composer who specialised in “classical” music: a composer by the name of Engelbert Humperdinck.
In 1961, at the age of twenty-five, Arnold contracted tuberculosis that would not heal. This illness, which left him between life and death, led him to reflect on his life. After battling the disease in hospital for nine months, he emerged victorious. He then decided to rebuild his life and pursue his dream: to be a singer.
At the age of 27, Gordon Mills, a renowned producer, decided to launch two handsome and talented gentlemen into the music industry at the same time. This simultaneous launch introduced the whole world to two of the greatest singers in history: Tom Jones and Arnold, who from that moment on would be named Engelbert Humperdinck.
In July 1966, the elegant Engelbert Humperdinck made a name for himself in Belgium with a sublime song titled “Dommage, dommage,” while representing England at the “Coupe d’Europe du Tour de Chant.” But without a doubt, his first major success in England and worldwide was the song “Release Me.”
This song appears in the “Guinness Book of Records” for having remained 56 consecutive weeks on the British charts and reaching number one in eleven countries.
At the start of 1967, Humperdinck was at the heart of one of the most legendary upheavals in the history of the British charts. His song “Release Me” kept the Beatles’ “Penny Lane” and “Strawberry Fields Forever” from reaching number one for six weeks. He thus ended an unbroken run of “eleven British #1s” that the Beatles had strung together over four years. He also sold more than a million copies, in the same year, of two different singles — “Release Me” and “The Last Waltz.” Only five other artists have matched or beaten that record with two titles. Engelbert Humperdinck had just dethroned the Beatles, and people wondered: “Who is this glamorous man?”
— With such an elegant presence, you have inspired men all over the world (my father among them); but who, in turn, inspired you to cultivate such a refined personality? —
The hits kept coming all around the world: After the Lovin’, There Goes My Everything, Am I That Easy to Forget, Spanish Eyes — an extraordinary Spanish song and his daughter’s favourite — Quando Quando Quando, another beautiful Italian song. His greatest hits were covered in France: The Last Waltz (“la dernière valse”) by Mireille Mathieu and A Man Without Love (“Comment te dire”) by Ivan Cevic and Joe Dassin.

— Your voice and style have allowed you to perform various musical genres; which style did you feel most drawn to? —

It’s dropping on August 28th, and I’m very proud of it.
Few careers are as prestigious as that of Engelbert Humperdinck. His multi-platinum certified hits such as “Release Me,” “The Last Waltz” and “After the Lovin’,” among many others, have contributed to sales exceeding 140 million albums worldwide. With 63 gold records and 24 platinum records to his name, four Grammy Award nominations, a Golden Globe for “Entertainer of the Year” (1988) and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Humperdinck ranks among the rare artists who can lay claim to such a track record.
As he celebrates his 90th birthday this year, Engelbert Humperdinck will be honoured as a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).
— You project an image of a glamorous, vigorous and active life. What is your secret to staying in shape? —

Proving that age is just a number, the 90-year-old icon continues to deliver masterful 90-minute performances before sold-out venues around the globe.
Engelbert Humperdinck is not content with the status of a “legacy” artist; he proves with ease that he remains entirely relevant to today’s audiences. Three of his hits have been featured in the productions Moon Knight (Marvel), Bullet Train (Sony) and Umbrella Academy (Netflix), driving a surge in his numbers on social media and streaming platforms, and drawing in an audience discovering him for the first time.

“The Celebration Tour”
Canada has always been a highlight of my world tours, and I’m delighted to share the celebration of my 90th year with my fans in Québec, who have been with me from the very beginning, through every chapter of my life.
The “King of Romance” offers you a memorable and intimate evening. A historic “Victory Tour” — a living legend!
Over a career spanning more than 50 years, Engelbert has sold more than 140 million records, including 64 gold albums and 35 platinum, received four Grammy Award nominations as well as a Golden Globe, and holds stars on the Walks of Fame in Hollywood, Las Vegas and Leicester.
He has performed four times before the Queen, as well as before several presidents and numerous heads of state. His repertoire ranges from romantic ballads to film scores, taking in disco, rock and even gospel.
His unique voice has won over millions of fans around the world. Yet it is as much his personality — marked by elegance, humour and self-deprecation — as his voice that has allowed him to connect with new generations. Engelbert burst onto the music scene at the same time as the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.
This charming and reserved man became, almost instantly, a global icon. He formed a great friendship with Elvis, and the two legends would often perform each other’s songs.
His first major hit, “Release Me,” entered the Guinness Book of Records for remaining 56 consecutive weeks on the charts and reaching number one in 11 countries.
Over the decades, Engelbert has toured the world again and again, performing before sold-out venues and savouring every moment on stage.
Engelbert’s music has spanned the eras; his voice continues to move today’s audiences — transporting, inspiring and comforting listeners while awakening feelings and emotions in them… all ingredients that undoubtedly make up the very essence of his enduring success.
Engelbert was named a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) as part of the honours marking Her Majesty the Queen’s birthday in 2021.
“The stage is my home,” Engelbert Humperdinck.
Here’s to you and here’s to me and here’s to friends we shall always be… cheers… good health.
