C’est une belle histoire que je vis avec le CMB depuis 2003, l’année de ma première participation en tant que membre du jury à Anvers, en Belgique. Créé en 1994 par mon ami Louis Havaux, le Concours Mondial de Bruxelles a su imposer sa marque de fabrique et sa réputation n’est plus à faire. Depuis 2006, le CMB est devenu itinérant et a parcouru de nombreuses régions de production. Parmi celles-ci, j’ai eu la chance de participer notamment aux éditions de Lisbonne et Guimarães au Portugal, Bordeaux, Bratislava, Jesolo et la Calabre en Italie, Aigle en Suisse, en Bulgarie, en Croatie, et à Pékin pour son 25e anniversaire. Chaque année, des milliers d’échantillons, entre 7 000 et 8 000, venant de la planète vin, sont proposés dans les meilleures conditions de dégustation, en blanc et en rouge uniquement, puisque les autres catégories (effervescents, rosés, doux et spiritueux), sont analysées maintenant dans d’autres régions. Inutile de préciser que si tout se passe dans la bonne humeur dans cette tour de Babel dont font partie les jurés venant d’une cinquantaine de pays, la rigueur est au rendez-vous, garantissant ainsi la légitimité des médailles, et en donnant aux lauréats un outil promotionnel à l’international. Baudouin Havaux, le président, qui a pris le relais en chemin pour faire de leur concours le succès qu’il est devenu aujourd’hui, a fait part de la nomination de son fils Quentin à la direction.

WORLD CONCOURS OF BRUSSELS, ONE OF THE GREATS IN THE WORLD

It’s a beautiful story that I’ve been living with the CMB since 2003, the year of my first participation as a jury member in Antwerp, Belgium. Created in 1994 by my friend Louis Havaux, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles has successfully established its brand and its reputation speaks for itself. Since 2006, the CMB has become itinerant and has traveled through many production regions. Among these, I have had the opportunity to participate in editions in Lisbon and Guimarães in Portugal, Bordeaux, Bratislava, Jesolo and Calabria in Italy, Aigle in Switzerland, in Bulgaria, in Croatia, and in Beijing for its 25th anniversary. Every year, thousands of samples, between 7,000 and 8,000, from the wine world, are offered under the best tasting conditions, in white and red only, since the other categories (sparkling, rosé, sweet and spirits) are now analyzed in other regions. Needless to say, if everything happens in good spirits in this Tower of Babel made up of jurors from fifty countries, rigor is present, ensuring the legitimacy of the medals, and giving laureates a promotional tool internationally. Baudouin Havaux, the president, who took over along the way to make their competition the success it has become today, announced the appointment of his son Quentin as director.
