ANÍBAL JOSÉ COUTINHO
Born in 1968, in Armação de Pera, Algarve, married, two children, graduated in Civil Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico and has been a member of the Order of Engineers for thirty years. The taste for wine took him back at university, while at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia (Lisbon), where he specialized in Viticulture and Oenology, with a master's degree in the same area. In 2016, he concluded the PhD program in Food Engineering, in the field of Sensory Analysis, having already published part of his work in the American scientific journal Journal of Sensory Studies and in the yearbook of the Instituto da Vinha e do Vinho (IVV). He was a member of the board of directors of the Associação Portuguesa de Enologia, the guild of Portuguese enologists, and is a specialist in Methods of Analysis at the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV). He is executive director of the postgraduate course in Wine Marketing, at ISLA, in Santarém, and guest lecturer at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia and Instituto Superior de Administração e Gestão (Porto).
At the end of 2002 he started to write about wines in Evasões magazine and Revista de Vinhos. Since then, he has intensified his work as a specialist critic, collaborating with the weekly Sol, Diário de Notícias and Jornal de Notícias, with TSF radio, among many other media. In 2009, he was part of the panel of Hora de Baco, a television program dedicated to wine. It publishes, since 2005, two annual wine selections: Copo&Alma, Best Wines and Copo&Alma, Popular Wine Guide (Editorial Presença). The first became, in 2010, exclusively digital, hosted at w-anibal.com. Along with this wine portal, it annually awards the W Awards to the national wine and vineyard sector. He is the author of the guide on Portugal included in the international collection TOP 10 Vinhos by the publisher Dorling Kindersley. He is a jury member of several international wine competitions, such as the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, International Wine Challenge, Vinalies Internationales, Citadelles du Vin, Selections Mondiales Canada, Berliner Wein Trophy or Mundus Vini. In Portugal, he presides over the regional contests of the Setúbal Peninsula and Beira Interior, and is technical director of the Uva de Ouro Contest, all recognized by the IVV. He is also coordinator of the Chamber of Tasters of the CVR of Setúbal Peninsula. Owner of the Astronauta and Escondido brands, as a winemaker, he has already vinified and signed wines in Portugal, Spain, France, Germany and South Africa. He had the honor of designing, for the Portuguese Football Federation, the wine that celebrates winning the Euro 2016, the greatest achievement in national sport.
Among several collaborations as a trainer and consultant, the role of consultant oenologist at Modelo Continente Hipermercados stands out, which he has held for over a decade.
He has another professional activity in music, being an effective member of the Coro Gulbenkian since 1998.
